Beta testing Google Maps

I was one of the beta testers for Google Maps (aka Google Local). Here’s a screenshot of some early maps.

Pictures of progress

Here is a progress shot of my layout. As I stated earlier I have the track laid on the inner loop.

I’m not into Sailor Moon, but…

But this is pretty damn cool. I think it’s the combination of hot, serious looking asian chick and Pat Benatar music. I just keep watching it over and over.

Inner loop complete

Work is now complete on the inner loop of my layout. I laid the last piece of track just a few minutes ago. The parts I have completed are in red. Next I’ll tackle the turnouts at the upper left and the tunnel tracks.

While still difficult, track laying is becoming a bit easier for me. It was just a matter of working out a technique.

In the news…

Today in the news, two American youths addressed a joint session of Congress. See the full story here.

Trackwork continues

I finally got some more trackwork done. I completed the curve coming off the upper left of the crossing section all the way around to the next turnout. Then I completed the upper industrial siding and placed the turnout for the lower industrial siding. A few more pieces of flextrack and I should have enough track laid to make some decent test runs.

I also decided that I would replace the gravel pit with a large industry. I got the idea from an old CD case I had laying around. I think the CD case is probably too big, but I could scratch build something out of styrene or find a kit that would be the right size.

I’m most concerned now over the 2nd level of the layout. I still don’t have a real plan as to how I am going to handle it.

Well well well…

I guess it’s time for a new fuckin’ blog entry.

Work really sucked today. I even got in early to make sure things would go well, but things did not. First I woke up and threw up twice. Normally I would call in sick if I’m throwing up, and especially so if I had not been drinking the night before. But we were already so shorthanded I couldn’t call in. So I went to work.

Things seem to be going well for the first 2 or 3 seconds that I am there, then the fucking wheels come off. I’m hot shotting parts, people are calling, and the scheduler almost had a mental breakdown. Then we start filpping deviations (and by “we” I mean I because the scheduler won’t freakin’ help me). After a minor fuckup on my part, things settle down for about 45 minutes. Then the deviation team decides to fix some deviations and they turn them off and then back on. All of a sudden we have no work, none. The scheduler is fucking clueless and does nothing to help me out. I think he was too busy SURFING THE FUCKING WEB.

So I try to do some troubleshooting and finally call in a trouble ticket. At that point I wash my hands of it because I am so far behind that it takes the next 3 hours to get even close to caught up. If the lines had been running full bore I don’t know what I would have done, so the downtime worked out okay for me.

Tomorrow should be better. I’ll have some help.

I also have a one on one with my boss tomorrow. I should probably tell him how disgusted I was today, but it probably won’t do any good so I’ll probably just sit in silence as per usual. I really don’t give a crap about this job anymore. I wanted a fresh start and I thought moving to Austin would give it to me. But let me just tell you. Austin Texas fuckin’ blows.
