I’ve been watching the mania that has accompanied the release of the Playstation 3 and the Wii. To that I say, “Bah, humbug.”
First of all, these are just gaming systems, they aren’t cures for cancer or anything. They are certainly not worth a 3 day wait in line outside the store. Heck, if I was buying one and had to wait more than 15 minutes in the checkout line I’d probably just set it down and walk out.
The Playstation 3 is massively overpriced. I saw people paying $1200 to $1500 for them on eBay. You can get a pretty good computer gaming system for that much cash and it’ll do more than play games. I think the $500 price point they set for their base model is also outrageous. The $250 for the Wii is better, but still a bit pricey. The Wii seems to be much more rare too with eBay prices still hovering near $400. The Playstation 3 is selling for retail and I’ve seen reports that they are actually sitting on store shelves unsold.
Why anyone would pay more than retail for these is beyond me. Exercising a little patience would save you a lot of money and wouldn’t hurt you one bit. These systems were release about a month ago and within 2 or 3 months of release I’m sure both will be in ample supply at the retail stores and possibly used on eBay. Paying ridiculous prices for them is just stupid. And waiting a few months might even change your mind completely about the system and you might take up fly fishing or amateur radio instead.
Let me know what you think and I’ll post more thoughts if they come to me.

I haven’t posted to the blog in nearly a year, so I guess it’s time for a new post. Now let me see, what should I say here. Today is Pearl Harbor Day so I could remind everyone to rough up their Japanese pals, but I’ve already done that. In fact, I take that comment back because I’ve been craving Japanese food for some reason. So remember Pearl Harbor, eat some sushi!

Recently it was discovered that water is flowing on the surface of Mars. While the scientific community is prancing in the streets like so many school girls on holiday in the Alps, other groups are taking a more conservative view of the news.
Environmentalists were immediately up in arms after the announcement. Through careful photo analysis, many environmental experts have concluded that the water is actually raw sewage being pumped directly onto the surface from the underground dwellings of the notoriously environmentally unconscious Martian population. Protesters immediately took action and built a makeshift spaceship out of recycled aluminum cans that was to be powered by cow manure. However, before they could even blast off, they were grounded by their own environmental regulations which strictly prohibit the use of manure as a propellant.
The court of Our Imperial Majesty George the Merciless of the American Empire, was also concerned about the water flow. Outgoing Minister of War Donald Rumsfeld claimed that the water flows could be indicators that the Martians are fueling their warships in preparation for an invasion while Imperial Magistrate Cheney proposed that the water was merely a feint and that the actual attack would come from Muslim extremists in Iran. As a precaution Our Imperial Majesty George the Merciless has ordered that a study be done on the feasibility of simultaneous bombardment of Iran, Mars, and the Moon, the so called “New Axis of Evil.”

I upgraded to the site to Textpattern 4.0.4 today. I was quite impressed with the ease of the upgrade. All you have to do is overwrite all the old Textpattern files and log back into the site (full upgrade details are in the Readme file included in the download). I only noted one bug which I am not quite sure is a bug. When I update my style sheet through Textpattern, the changes are not reflected when I refresh the page in Firefox. It will only load a new style sheet if I clear the cache. That’s a bit annoying, but I’m not sure if it’s a Firefox bug or a Textpattern bug. For the time being I’ve migrated my style sheet to a static file.
You’ll probably also notice that I moved some things around and changed the look a bit. I removed the images at the top of the page and replaced them with text. I also moved the menu bar down and to the left, the header was centered, the content was moved to the right and the Navigation menu was reordered. I left the footer alone.
Finally, I added a Links page for all my linky goodness. There are only a few links there now, but I’m working on more. Check it all out!
