Taxes update

Just an FYI. My tax return deposited today into my checking account by direct deposit. So that makes it about 10 business days from the time I hit submit until the funds were in the account. Looks like TaxACT works! Oh, and don’t be asking me for any loans. Unfortnately, the money is already spent.

Free tax prep

If you haven’t heard, you can file your taxes free of charge at http://taxact.com. I did it and I wasn’t charged a penny, not even for e-filing. My tax forms are fairly simple and I found the site to be easy to use. I’m not sure how it would work for more complicated forms, but should probably be just as easy. The interface was similar to Turbotax online only much cheaper and/or free. They do have a “Deluxe” version that is $9.95, but I did not need it to complete my return. If you’re curious, give it a try. There’s no need to enter a credit card number but you will have to enter your personal information like your date of birth and social security number.

Obama supporter

THIS is why I support Obama:

Actually, can I vote for this kid?

Drawing the line

I went and voted today. In fact I went out of my way to vote (about 250 miles round trip). I’m currently living in a hotel in Nashville that I moved into a few weeks ago. However, I am still registered to vote in Huntingdon, TN. Thus a long and exhausting trip. If your state has a primary today I urge you to go out and get your vote on.

When I returned to my hotel room I decided to check the news and came upon this story:

Normally I dismiss anything that has to do with Alex Jones since he’s a complete nut job, but I got to thinking about the scenario mentioned in the article. What if the President did suspend the elections and tried to remain in office? It all comes down to where do we draw the line. I ask myself that a lot and I think this situation is where it happens. I could not allow that sort of thing to happen without fighting back. Such blatant disregard for everything this country stands for could not be ignored.

So what is your breaking point?

Wasting time

I just read an article (link is dead - Ed.) that might prove to be the biggest waste of time since the Senate baseball hearings. Apparently Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) has decided that the Patriots spying scandal needs to be investigated. Spector says he wants to do this because he has questions about how the NFL handled this matter in relation to their anti-trust exemption status.

I say what a crock of shit! This is an utter waste of time and not worth the attention of a US Senator. At best it might be a legal matter to be hashed out in court, but I think the situation was handled and no more should be said about it. I think Specter’s Republican colleagues should take him aside and show him the party platform plank about returning to small government.

If we really want to investigate a business, why not start with ExxonMobile?

Idiots in the News

I was watching CNN’s pre-debate coverage tonight. The anchor of the show was talking to a reporter at the Democratic debate site and mention that only Clinton and Obama were invited. Then she mentioned that there was actually one more Democrat still in the running, Mike Gravel and asked the on-site reporter why he wasn’t invited. Of course when she made this mention, she called him Mike Gavel and then called him Mike Gravel, but with the emphasis on the wrong syllable. Moral of the story? She didn’t have a clue who Mike Gravel is and was just reading the questions off a prompter. I would think that someone should have gone over that with her in the show prep, but apparently it didn’t happen.

Ironically, by making her ignorance of Mike Gravel known, she ended up answering her own question. He wasn’t invited because most of America doesn’t even know who he is and he consistently gets 0% of the vote in the primaries as a result. He’s actually a pretty cool dude and is worth checking out. While I don’t think he’s Presidential material, I do think he’s cabinet worthy if he’d be willing to take a post.
