Did you notice?

I updated my theme. It took me about 3 working days to put it all together if you total up all the time I spent on it. I was never satisfied with the previous theme. It was fugly. So check this one out and let me know what you think of it and report any bugs you find.

Downtime

Most people are asking me if I have run into any snow in my job as a truck driver. The answer is yes… yes I have. My location is the Petro in Kingdom City, MO. I stopped here last night to get some rest and decided to stay here all day today since there’s about 5 inches of snow on the ground. My load does not deliver until Monday morning and it is only 280 miles away, so I figured I would just sit tight today and let the road improve.

Another advantage to this strategy is that I will get a 34 hour restart. You see, truckers have three clocks they must live by. The first two clocks are the 11 hour and 14 hour clocks. Each driver can drive 11 hours, but those hours must be contained within a period of 14 consecutive hours. And each 14 hour period must be separated by a 10 hour rest period. For example, if I were to get up at 6:00am and start driving, I would have until 8:00pm in which I could work. At 8:00pm I must stop for at least 10 hours whether I want to or not. Within that period I can only drive 11 of the hours and the rest of the hours are used for inspections and breaks. You do not have to drive for 11 hours or use up the whole 14 hours if you do not wish. But you do need the 10 hours rest period to reset the 14 hour clock.

The third clock is the 70 hour clock. Drivers cannot drive for more than 70 hours in 8 days. For example, if I took the total number of hours I had driven for the past 7 days and it came to 65 hours, then today I would only be able to drive 5 hours regardless of the 11 hour and 14 hour clocks. But the 70 hour clock can be reset to zero by going off duty for a period of 34 hours.

So the plan is to sit here until tomorrow morning and then my 70 hour clock will be zeroed. I’m using the time to work on my blog, watch some movies, and just generally not worry about anything. It is a well deserved break after 32 consecutive days of being on the road. As a comparison, imagine living at your place of employment for 32 days without being able to visit family or friends. Oh, and your place of work only has an outhouse for a bathroom.

New color scheme

After receiving tons of negative feedback on my previous color scheme, I decided to change it. So here is it, a sort of greenish, earthy look. Let me know what you think.

Wordpress port seemingly complete

The port of my website to Wordpress is now seemingly complete. I say “seemingly” because there are always going to to be some minor glitches here and there that I’ll have to stamp out. I’m sure I’ll also think of some additions I want to make. The port went fairly smoothly for the most part. My biggest hang ups were getting the styles to work in IE6 (so what else is new?) and figuring out the Wordpress template and theme engine. It’s a beast, but it is a well documented and powerful beast, so it’s not too bad.

My only real complaints are the choice of default wrap tags and the misuse of the “id” attribute in the default Wordpress install. For the most part I’d prefer that wrap tags be off by default so that I can just choose my own. And several items that can be used multiple times in a page were given a default “id” attribute. “id” should only be used on things that occur once on the page. “class” is usually the better choice in my opinion.

Let me know if you see any obvious flaws in the site. I checked it as best I could, but you can never check everything.

Site mostly working

Well, I’ve got the site mostly up and running. There are still some things that are not finished. The sidebar is a good example, but things seem to be mostly functional. The only major hurdle was realizing that after I installed Wordpress 2.2 yesterday, they decided to release version 2.2.1 today. The upgrade went okay, but I had some theme issues that caused me some grief for about 30 minutes. Let me know if you see any major flaws.

Porting to Wordpress

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am currently porting my site to Wordpress.  Wordpress is a very powerful blogging utility and can also be used as a content management system (which is how I intend to use it).  Please bear with me over the next few days and weeks as I work to finish the move.

Site fixed

I decided to fix my site tonight. Previously I had noticed that the blog articles list was all jacked up, so I fixed it. But in the process of fixing that I jacked up the single blog entries and comments. Since I am currently working on porting my site to Wordpress, I had almost decided to not fix the issues. However, tonight I decided that the porting process might take a while and that I should probably fix the site. Turns out it took about 3 minutes and 1 line of code. If you see any further problems, please send me a note.

UPDATE: Errr, that should have been THREE lines of code. Remind me to scroll down next time.

No naked frat boys here

I was checking my logs to see what brings people to my website. Here are the top 5 search terms for incoming traffic:

1. frat boys shower
2. her boyfriend was well endowed
3. well endowed frat boy
4. frat boys showering
5. guys in dorm shower

This is no doubt in response to one of my humor articles. I just thought it was funny.

Update of the day

I added link to my humor page. I also formatted my resume so it looks halfway decent. Making that humor page work right was a pain, so you better enjoy it… or else…
